Padres could have done better.
Well, the trade is made and it could have been better. Casey Kelly will probably be good, but he has yet to show the control he'll need in the majors. Anthony Rizzo is a crusher, but he swings a little too much, thus may never provide the value he could. Reymond Fuentes has talent but shows no signs of developing plate discipline, which probably means he won't.

None of these players are can't-miss. In contrast, the Texas Rangers got Neftali Feliz, Elvis Andrus, *and* two other good prospects for Mark Teixeira, who is not nearly the hitter Adrian Gonzalez is.

Considering that the Padres still have a good pitching staff, they probably should have kept AGonz and contended, then offered him arbitration, getting a year of value and picks.
