it's one guy, basically. there's the super-youngster, and the hitter, but it's basically one guy.

last year's list

Career Pitching Statistics for Tim Lincecum:

2006 San Jose Cali 22 Sf A+ 27.2 13 3 12 48 .111 .500 .063 1.95

this is the guy. his contact rates are incredibly excellent. walk rates are bad, but that's ok because his contact rates are incredibly excellent.

Career Pitching Statistics for Jonathan Sanchez:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2004 Az Giants Ariz 21 Sf Rk 26.0 22 0 9 27 .083 .730 .000 2.77

2006 SF Giants MLB 23 Sf MLB 40.0 39 2 23 33 .126 .792 .016 4.95

jonathan sanchez also has good contact rates. his 2006 stint in connecticut looks especially good. it was partly in relief. since then he's had trouble throwing strikes. if his flash of brilliance can become consistent, he can be something special.

with angel villalona, we usher in the era of the prospects born in the 90's. since he's 16, we don't have any stats for him.

Career Batting Statistics for Emmanuel Burriss:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2004 Kent State NCAA 19 NCA 175 24 19 0 4 .121 .891 .026 .282
2005 Kent State NCAA 20 NCA 193 18 18 1 7 .085 .907 .046 .319
2006 SalemKzr Nwes 21 Sf A- 256 33 22 1 10 .114 .914 .047 .307

emmanuel burriss is gonna make it. he has excellent contact, very good strike zone judgement, and speed. he plays shortstop and he's a switch-hitter. he's a probable strong contributor with an outside shot at being a difference maker. if the baseball cube fixes their misspelling, that link won't work.

Career Pitching Statistics for Brian Wilson:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2002 LSU NCAA 20 NCA 94.0 112 5 31 71 .073 .820 .015 3.54

2006 SF Giants MLB 24 Sf MLB 29.1 31 1 20 23 .144 .807 .010 5.52

brian wilson is very good at limiting home runs, and has shown control in the past. strikeout rates do not figure to be strong, but he could be useful as that sinker guy in the pen, like the braves always have.

i'm assuming he's a sinker guy. i don't know anything about him. here's his wikipedia page.

Career Batting Statistics for Kevin Frandsen:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2002 San Jse St NCAA 20 NCA 161 25 14 7 11 .134 .913 .122 .317

kevin frandsen has very good contact skills but needs to work on his patience. as a right-handed hitter, he'll have to develop more power to be a starter.

Career Batting Statistics for Fred Lewis:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2002 SalemKzr Nwes 21 Sf A- 239 29 58 1 12 .108 .757 .072 .322

fred lewis is a lefty outfielder with patience and speed, but he just doesn't have the contact. he's not going to be able to handle major-league pitching.

Career Batting Statistics for Nate Schierholtz:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2003 Az Giants Ariz 19 Sf Rk 45 4 8 0 2 .082 .822 .054 .400

2006 Connectict East 22 Sf AA 471 39 81 14 32 .076 .828 .118 .270

nate schierholtz has that special contact/power combination but unfortunately he swings too much. he bats left-handed.

Career Batting Statistics for Eddy Martinez-Esteve:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2004 Florida St NCAA 21 NCA 275 40 41 19 27 .127 .851 .197 .385

2006 Connectict East 23 Sf AA 96 9 14 2 10 .086 .854 .146 .272

this is the hitter i was talking about. eddy martinez-esteve is another name the cube has spelled wrong. anyway, as i said earlier, he can hit. patience, contact, and power. he's apparently a born dh.

Career Pitching Statistics for Billy Sadler:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2003 LSU NCAA 21 NCA 44.0 36 1 27 57 .138 .661 .009 3.89

2004 San Jose Cali 22 Sf A+ 56.2 29 1 40 66 .167 .668 .008 2.38
2004 Norwich East 22 Sf AA 30.1 22 3 18 24 .137 .788 .034 3.86
2005 Norwich East 23 Sf AA 84.1 64 4 33 81 .094 .744 .017 3.31
2006 SF Giants MLB 24 Sf MLB 4.0 5 2 2 6 .105 .647 .182 6.75

billy sadler is a reliever who limits home runs, and has shown a vast improvement in the past two years. unfortunately, the baseball cube does not have his minor league numbers from 2006, which show a strong increase in strikeouts, as well as a 22-strikeout, 4-walk performance in the arizona fall league.

that's the ba list. kevin goldstein leaves out wilson and frandsen, instead including sharlon schoop and mike mcbryde. clayton tanner is his sleeper.

Career Batting Statistics for Sharlon Schoop:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2005 Az Giants Ariz 18 Sf Rk 170 19 18 1 4 .101 .894 .033 .254
2006 Az Giants Ariz 19 Sf Rk 128 30 15 1 8 .190 .883 .080 .310
2006 SalemKzr Nwes 19 Sf A- 7 3 0 0 0 .300 1.00 .000 .286

sharlon romans emederio schoop is a shortstop with excellent patience and excellent contact who needs to develop power to make it. i shouldn't say make it. i should say start in the major leagues.

Career Batting Statistics for Mike Mcbryde:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2004 Fl Atlantc NCAA 19 NCA 135 9 32 0 2 .063 .763 .019 .370

2006 Fl Atlantc NCAA 21 NCA 10 0 3 0 2 .000 .700 .286 .300
2006 SalemKzr Nwes 21 Sf A- 226 24 59 3 14 .096 .739 .102 .276

mike mcbryde has potential in many areas but will he make contact enough to be effective? that is the question.

Career Pitching Statistics for Clayton Tanner:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2006 SalemKzr Nwes 18 Sf A- 26.0 17 1 8 25 .078 .737 .014 3.46

clayton tanner had good results in the northwest league as an 18-year-old. as an 18-year-old.

that wasn't a mistake. i said it twice on purpose.

and that's the giants. i was too harsh in the beginning of this article. every one of these guys has potential, most of them in ways that could make them stars. few of them are likely to get there, but it's an interesting list.
