there's some good prospects here. overall, though, this is not a good system.

Career Pitching Statistics for Homer Bailey:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2004 GC Redsox GCL 18 Cin Rk 12.1 14 0 3 9 .056 .824 .000 4.38

2006 Chattga Sou 20 Cin AA 68.0 50 1 28 77 .099 .697 .006 1.59

homer bailey got everything together in a hurry. his control improved, he pitched in double-a at a very young age with outstanding contact percentages and good home run rates. he's gonna be very good. obviously i'm not the only one saying that.

Career Batting Statistics for Jay Bruce:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2005 Billings Pio 18 Cin Rk 70 11 22 4 2 .136 .686 .125 .257

2006 Dayton Midw 19 Cin A 450 48 106 16 47 .096 .764 .183 .291

jay bruce played at middle-a at a young age and pounded the crap out of the ball. he should improve as he learns to wait for his pitch, and he's obviously gonna make it. he's a lefty.

Career Batting Statistics for Joey Votto:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2002 GC Redsox GCL 18 Cin Rk 180 22 45 9 16 .109 .750 .185 .269

2006 Chattga Sou 22 Cin AA 511 79 109 22 48 .134 .787 .174 .319

joey votto is another lefty-hitting power-hitter in the reds system. patience is good but he needs to improve contact. 2006 was his breakout year.

Career Pitching Statistics for Johnny Cueto:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2005 GC Redsox GCL 19 Cin Rk 43.0 49 2 8 38 .043 .787 .014 5.02

2006 Sarasota FSL 20 Cin A+ 61.2 48 6 23 61 .090 .738 .035 3.50

johnny cueto had good contact percentages at a young age in high-a. looks like he's gonna make it.

Career Batting Statistics for Drew Stubbs:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2004 Texas NCAA 19 NCA 269 32 75 8 19 .106 .721 .139 .301

2006 Billings Pio 21 Cin Rk 211 39 64 6 10 .156 .697 .109 .252

drew stubbs had patience and power in college, but he really had trouble with contact. maybe if he cuts down his swing he'll be able to improve. i can't at this point predict a major league career.

Career Pitching Statistics for Travis Wood:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2005 Billings Pio 18 Cin Rk 24.2 15 0 13 22 .127 .753 .000 1.82

2006 Dayton Midw 19 Cin A 140.0 108 14 56 133 .096 .748 .035 3.66

travis wood had very good lefty stuff as a 19-year-old in middle-a. i like this kid. look at what he did in the gulf coast league!

Career Pitching Statistics for Sean Watson:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2004 Tennessee NCAA 19 NCA 75.1 73 5 47 51 .136 .829 .020 4.54

2006 Dayton Midw 21 Cin A 14.2 22 2 5 16 .070 .758 .040 8.59

sean watson has had good control as a pro so far but he hasn't had a lot of strikeouts. it's early. we'll see.

Career Batting Statistics for Milton Loo:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2006 GC Redsox GCL 20 Cin Rk 43 3 5 1 6 .065 .884 .184 .372

milton loo showed good contact and good power in a small sample size, but little patience. it seems clear he has talent.

Career Batting Statistics for Paul Janish:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2002 Rice NCAA 19 NCA 199 16 13 2 15 .074 .935 .091 .299

2006 Chattga Sou 23 Cin AA 15 1 5 0 1 .063 .667 .100 .267

i like paul janish. he makes really good contact, he has good patience, and he may develop power. he's a shortstop. this is good.

Career Batting Statistics for Chris Valaika:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl AAB W K HR 23 WAL CON POW AVG
2004 calsantab NCAA 18 NCA 223 25 37 7 18 .101 .834 .134 .347

2006 Billings Pio 20 Cin Rk 281 32 61 8 26 .102 .783 .155 .324

chris valaika has power, but it doesn't look like he'll develop the contact to make it. i don't know. maybe he will.

kevin goldstein has the same top ten. his sleeper is calvin medlock.

Career Pitching Statistics for Calvin Medlock:
Year Team Lg. Age Org Lvl IP H HR BB SO WAL CON HRP ERA
2003 Billings Pio 20 Cin Rk 28.2 25 1 9 31 .075 .721 .013 1.88

2006 Chattga Sou 23 Cin AA 63.2 54 4 28 70 .103 .714 .023 2.97

calvin medlock had some decent strikeout rates last year, but he's getting a little old. he'll probably be useful in the majors.

so, the reds. i like a lot of these guys, but i don't like what they're doing overall. they don't have enough, at the major- or minor-league level, to get the championship, and i can't support their draft last year. they need to do more, and they need to do it better.

are they doing any international scouting?
