phil avlas
watched the tennesse smokies play the mississippi braves today. ok i'm watching it now, and luis hernandez just made a great over-the-shoulder catch. he doesn't have any patience or power, but he does have contact.

he did have patience last year. either way, his skills are useful.

but (as you may have guessed by the title) this article is about phil avlas. he's the catcher for the smokies. he's 23 (24 in december) and he's got a shot.

his numbers this year include 19 extra-base hits, 27 walks, 30 strikeouts, and 194 at-bats. you'd like to see more power, but that's good patience and contact. power could develop. he's got a shot.

i said that already.
