ricciardi does it again
he dumped corey koskie's contract. not only that, but he got a prospect. well, not really a prospect, but he dumped corey koskie's contract. how did he do that?

corey koskie has two years left on a 3-year, 17 million dollar contract. then he has another year. it vests with 1200 plate appearances in 2005--2007. he had just over 400 in 2005. he's on pace. it pays 6.5 million.

corey koskie just doesn't make enough contact to be worth playing every day. he had a decent year in 2001. he was usable during his peak. but he's past-peak now. he's on the cliff.

bill hall is better. they should play him as much as they can. he plays any infield position, so they can do a little switcheroo where they play koskie at third and hall at second or short at times, but hall should not lose playing time to koskie.

2005 was hall's breakout season. he's heading towards his peak. expect good things.

if they do it right koskie will get 300--400 at-bats, and hall will get 500--600.

here's the guy the blue jays got:

he was great in 2001, then he struggled along, then he got injured. wait a minute, 2001. 160 innings. in a-ball. i'm not tryin to say nothin, i'm just sayin.

ok i'll say it. that's way too many innings for a 20-year-old pitcher to throw. he clearly struggled the next two years, with full workloads, then he got injured. that's how it always goes. a pitcher gets overworked in a brilliant season, then struggles along, then gets hurt. he was already hurt. he got hurter.

doc gooden fernando valenzuela ramon martinez all those young mets pulsipher isringhausen wilson the list goes on and on i thought we were gonna learn this lesson. kerry wood.
