what can you say about him? he doesn't walk people. that's it. that's all you can say. i mean it's good to not walk people, but you cannot dominate with it. he's a guy.

here at julien's baseball cube, "guy" has a special meaning. specifically: one who contributes between zero and five wins. it is one of three categories, the others being "strong contributor", and "difference maker". difference makers are worth more than 10 wins. strong contributors are in between.

anyway, sanchez is a guy. he strikes people out at a decent rate, walks a few too many, and is normal to slightly above average with the home runs. he's usable.

there were two other guys in this trade. the dodgers got tim hamulack.

he's spent a lot of time in the minors, but he has occasionally struck a lot of dudes out. 2005, for example, when he also had good walk rates and great home run percentages. maybe he figured something out. if so, good pickup by the dodgers.

also, he's a lefty.

the mets got steve schmoll.

well, he struck people out in 2003. he also struck people out in aaa in 2005. he's got some work to do, but he could be somebody. this is the hidden value that makes the trade make sense for the mets.

looks like colletti is not afraid to trade youth. sorry, dodgers fans.
