why did i read that?
aaron gleeman is an idiot. i know i shouldn't say shit like that, but i feel it is my duty. the public must be informed.
it is not hard to believe that beltre would have a good year. he had 17 hr after the all-star break last year (253 ab) as a 24-year-old in his sixth major league season. he hit .290/.360/.475 as a 21-year-old. the second piece of information tells you he will be a star. the first tells you that it's coming. worry about batting averages and you have been deceived by random variation.
did we know he'd be the third-best hitter in the majors this year? no, we didn't. but we should't be surprised. young players break out.
one and two are bonds and pujols.
